video production

Our team was provided with a detailed script, specific locations, the athletes that would be in the video, and a comprehensive storyboard. We were going to shoot the video in the Bora-Hansgrohe team HQ in Raubling, Germany. All the athletes of the team were there for the kits fittings, photos and interviews for the team, press releases, promotional videos with the sponsors and they had a pretty tight schedule.

the concept

The Bora-Hansgrohe hadn’t received their bikes for the new season from the bike sponsor, Specialized, at the time we had to shoot the video so Sportful came up with this idea of the video:

Upon returning to Bora HQ, several athletes notice employees wearing unfamiliar pieces of branded cycling gear. From the parking attendant in Sportful BOH 2024 race gloves to the receptionist in arm warmers, the new kit is subtly revealed. In the final scene, Captain Jay Hindley stands before a mirror, proudly dressed in the new Sportful BOH 2024 racing kit, declaring, «Welcome back, Sportful.”

the execution

The original plan involved shooting across seven different locations, an ambitious undertaking given the athletes’ limited availability. To ensure everything ran smoothly, our team arrived in advance to set up lighting and prepare each shot. However, due to time constraints and problems with the original locations, we ended up with only 15 minutes per scene with the athletes, making the process quite hectic.

Despite these challenges working closely with Sportful team and revising the script, we successfully completed the shoot on schedule and with everything we wanted with the resources we had.

deleted scene

A scene featuring Cian Uijtdebroeks made it to the final edit. However, two days before the video’s release, it was announced that he was transferring from Bora-Hansgrohe to Team Visma-Lease a Bike, requiring the removal of his scene from the video.
